I am interested in starting a home based business, at least home based for now. I want to design and sell plus sized clothing. Do I need a business license? What about financial assistance? Also if its needed it will be located in middle TN.

You will need a state tax ID number for sales tax purposes. If you need a city license you need to check with the local city clerk. Also make sure you can operate a home-based business in that area by contacting the zoning department. You probably won' get a SBA grant to start that particular business but I'm sure if you asked around you could get a low-interest loan. Good luck.

Do I need any training, should I work in an agency first? I am currently an Advertising/Marketing major, but I want to be a wedding planner, I would love to open my own business, but I am afraid I don't have the network nor the money, any ideas?

Well, you need to start by getting experience event/wedding planning. By working for someone else first you'll:
1. Get the contacts you need to be successful
2. Learn how the business actually works
3. Save the money you need (or meet partners to invest) to start your own company

At first, you might even have to, gasp, work for free. The more experience you have the more likely you are to get hired.
